Welcome to another round of Marvelous in my Monday!
This weekend was packed with fabulous summer activities surrounding fruits, veggies, and vigorous workouts.
My Friday was a double workout day, just like every Friday should be :) In the morning, I hit the gym for my heavy circuits routine [got up at 5:15am]…
And then after work threw in my new Turbofire dvd to kick ass with Chalene Johnson and my weighted gloves!
I’ve been appreciating summer so much more this year because it’s my first truly #plantbased summer! I have been vegetarian for 5 years, but never truly lived a plant based lifestyle until last September. Now, the hubby and I love planning our weekend activities around fun and relaxation that are good for the soul AND the body.
On Saturday morning, we hit up Haymarket again for loads of fresh fruit. Once again, we stayed away from the non-organic fruit that is listed on the Dirty Dozen, but we got lucky this week and found some organic strawberries and blueberries! The strawberries were $2 per box and the blueberries were $2 for 3 boxes! UNREAL. We walked out with nearly 50 lbs. of produce for under $30.
I can’t wait to try this papaya!
I chopped some papaya and mango to put in the freezer for smoothies and enjoyed some fresh this weekend. YUMMO.
I enjoyed the fresh cantaloupe with some collard green wraps stuffed with Happy Herbivore’s Mock Tuna Salad. Perfect summer meal!
The best part of my weekend BY FAR was grilling with the hubby on our roof deck :)
We threw yellow summer squash, eggplant, asparagus, sweet corn, and veggie burgers on the grill.
And it wouldn’t have been complete without enjoying our bottle of strawberry rhubarb wine straight from the farm last weekend.
What about dessert, you ask?
Oh. We had it covered. Freshly cut pineapple with nothing but a sprinkle of cinnamon thrown on the grill. I can’t even begin to explain how deliciously sweet this was, and I am NOT a fruit-for-dessert person.
We also made a little frozen banana soft serve with some cinnamon and maple extract to go with it.
And last but not least…
Today marks the END OF ALL GOOD THINGS.
Ok, I’m being dramatic, but there will be some big changes.
I decided a few weeks back to start looking into sports nutritionists and trainers who could provide me with a specified meal plan, workout plan, and full service online coaching. As you know, this can be pretty expensive, but I found an awesome guy who will do it for only $200/month with constant plan adjustments, progress pictures, and who lets you contact him whenever you have ANY questions. So, I decided to use my birthday money to splurge and get serious about reaching my goals.
Check out Daniel Calabrese’s website here.
I’m doing this because I have been waffling around the same weight and body fat percentage for a few months now. I’ve still been seeing some changes in my body, but given how hard I’m working in the gym, I’d like to see more. I wanted to be active about finding support to achieve my goals by surrounding myself with people who have accomplished what I want. Tomorrow I’l be starting a strict plan focused on lower carbs and getting my body to become efficient at burning fat for fuel. This means no more fruit, rice cakes, bread, etc. It’ll be protein shakes, tofu, tempeh, greens, and limited brown rice and oatmeal for me.
But do you know what? I’m SO EXCITED!
I don’t feel deprived doing this at all because I know that I have huge goals and that this is a healthy way to meet them! I don’t view this as RESTRICTING my food intake, but rather as GIVING MY BODY everything it needs exactly when it needs it so that I am fueling perfectly like a lean green machine :)
I’ll also plan ahead for some healthy “cheat” meals so that once a week or so I can have one meal where I enjoy some fruit or something “off plan.”
I’ll be adjusting my plan weekly as I need and am so excited for what I am going to accomplish. I’ll let you guys know how the first week goes after I’m done!
Also, this comes just in time for Truly Committed hosted by Jess over at Truly Jess! Need some motivation? Hop on this train! This girl is awesome and has motivated me so much. Seeing her progress was actually what encouraged me to get online training support, and now I’m so psyched to be starting tomorrow just in time for Truly Committed! Check. It. Out.
My goals and current pics will be up on Instagram tomorrow for sure.
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
