New {Plant-based} Product Finds

October 31, 2013

Hey people. I’ve got another {slightly} scatterbrained post for you today.

Just wanted to share some of the great new {plant-based} products I’ve stumbled across lately!

This is such a cool time to be a plant-based athlete because every week there are new products hitting the market. Almost every single time I go grocery shopping, I find something I’ve never seen before. I’m still waiting for vegan cottage cheese, but alas, no luck yet.

Without further ado…

1. Daiya {Vegan} Pizza

Ok, I know this might not be new to some of you, but it just arrived to Whole Foods in Boston last month!

It might not be “healthy” in the way I like to use the word “healthy,” but it’s gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and, of course, meat free! It’s great for when I have a pizza craving even though it’s not something I enjoy on the regular. When I do enjoy it, I love to top it with some extra basil and pasta sprinkle to add some extra spice. Delish!

2. Dream Blends {Vegan} Milk

Anyone tried these yet? I didn’t actually buy them, but they sound so good!

3. Superseed Dark Chocolate {Vegan} 20131031-072440.jpg

4. Sweet Potato Hummus {Vegan, Gluten free}

Found at a local New England health food store.

5. Pumpkin Seed Pesto {Vegan, Gluten free, Raw} 20131031-072427.jpg

6. Alt BarsĀ  20131031-073016.jpg

These alternative protein bars pack 10 grams of {plant-based} protein. I’m still having trouble finding these in Boston! The only place that carries them is a coop, so I ordered these when they were on sale on Amazon – 15 bars for $10!

7. Coconut Cranberry Granola {Trader Joes}

I love seeing new granola flavors! Although some granolas can be high in sugar and/or fat, these ones aren’t too bad. I love to sprinkle a little granola on top of my protein pancakes, my oatmeal, or into a dessert style powerbowl for an extra crunch.

8. Country Pumpkin Spice Granola {Trader Joes}

I love the Forty Spices and the Zesty Spice and Garlic, but the Everything flavor is also amazeballs. When they have sales on these small tubs, we always try a bunch of new flavors!

10. Maple Nut Clif Bar

Again, Clif bars are not something I regularly enjoy (mostly because they are pretty high in carbs and do contain a lot of processed ingredients and chemicals – check out the ingredient list!), but occasionally when I’m craving something chewy and sweet, I’ll choose a Clif bar because it’s vegan, super filling, and yummo. When I saw this new flavor, I just had to try it.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. It’s good, but tastes very much like a lot of other Clif bar flavors. I would have liked a much stronger maple flavor.

11. Last but not least, Eco Jarz!

We ordered these a few weeks ago, and I am obsessed with them. Hubby searched high and low online to findĀ quart size mason jars with handles (because let’s be real, who wants those tiny guys). Once we found them, we bought some of the Eco Jarz lids and stainless steel straws, which I love!

From a previous post…

My new EcoJarz lid for my quart sized mason jar :) Yes, I eat a quart (at least) for breakfast :)

Have you found any new products lately? I’d love to hear about them!

Week Long Scatterbrained Update

October 29, 2013

Sorry for the week long absence, people.

Things have been a bit busier than usual over here. Every time I sat down to write a blog post, I just couldn’t quite pull it together OR WordPress decided to be stupid and not allow me to upload any photos.

What’s a blog post without photos, I ask you? Please, no one wants to see that. So, here’s a quick photo update since the last time you heard from me:

My old worn and torn and sticky (don’t ask) Adidas bag that served me well for over 9 years

My brand new Adidas bag – serious upgrade with a zipper pocket for keys and everything :)

Hubby racing at his cross race this past weekend

For those of you who don’t know much about cross racing, it’s a very technical sport, and it takes a while to learn the skill even if your already a fabulous road and off-road cyclist. Hubby went from finishing close to last in the lowest category of racers in his first race, to now finishing well into the upper half even against people who are in a higher category than he is! I’m super proud of him as a new cross racer and can’t wait to see what future cross seasons will bring.

I got to hit the gym with a few (read: 4) friends this past weekend too. This is rarity for me, as I don’t usually go to our school gym, but rather an all women’s gym in the city. It was fun to have some people around to keep you motivated (read: take pictures of you stretching).

I reached some huge stretching goals! I got my hands flat on the floor with my knees locked for the first time ever, thanks to a BRUTAL legs day.

I also got my head to me knee, which, let’s be honest, is THRILLING :)

My Monday morning started with a quadruple batch of protein pancakes for the week.

Annnnnnnd that’s all for now, folks. I told you this would be scatterbrained.

If this is any indication to you of how tired I am right now, today was the first day I took an unplanned rest day from the gym in well over 8 weeks. I’m exhausted and just need some time to let my mind rest and my body recover. Might have something to do with the fact that I did AMRAP (as many reps as possible) squats on Sunday and AMRAP push press yesterday. I’m beat.

Hang in there, y’all.
